First Friday Storyteller Series & Youth Poetry Open Mic
Friday, February 7, 2020, 6:00 PM  - 9:00 PM

Join us for First Friday at our writing center at the heart of Oakland’s First Friday street festival. Bookmaking activities for all and music with DJ XCAIROCITOSX.

6 - 7 : High School Students (ages 13 - 19) are invited to participate in a writing workshop with poet Gabriel Cortez 
6:30 - 7 : 
Fifth-grader Aida Ndiaye will read from her published book, Evil Burrito and the FBI
  • Two awarded middle-school Oakland youth from the We Write Here awarded group will read excerpts from their winning pieces!
  • Local children’s book author Lashon Daley will read from her beautiful book Mr. Okra Sells Fresh Fruits and Vegetables        
7:30 - 8:30 : Poetry Open Mic (Writers, if you are 13 - 19 years old, come early to make sure you get a spot in this open mic lineup!)
