Middle and High School students are brilliant! They are creative, inspiring, opinionated, and always smart. Here is a place for you to share your best writing. We encourage you to send in your writing, essays, poetry etc. from class or stories you might be writing just for fun. If your work is selected you will get an award ($25 gift card) and the writing will be published here on the website. We Write Here started in Oakland, CA in 2018 and it is now open to submissions from any location worldwide. selected writing: $25 gift card Q: Do I have to use my real name on my work? A: You will be submitting with a pen name you create. We would like to publish your grade as well. If selected, we will email you an official acceptance notice, with a link to your work on our site, which you can forward to family, friends, and teachers. Q: Will I receive a reward/gift card? A: Yes. $25 for a bookstore (Green Apple Books or other), Paypal if international. It can take up to 10 days to receive the award. Thank you for your patience. Q: Can I submit many writing pieces? A: Sure! No limit. The more writing you send the greater the chance of it getting selected. Don't get discouraged if your first essay is not selected. The ones would like to award always surpasses the number that gets published. Q: Who sees my writing submissions? Only those evaluating the awards at "we write here" have permission to read your writing. We do not share your work and keep your confidentiality and privacy always. Q: When will I know if my work is getting published? A: You will only hear from us if your work is selected. The timeline from submission to award is usually within a month, sometimes two. Q: What types of writing can I send? A: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Essays, Short Stories, Poetry, Humor, Interviews, etc.... Q: Can students comment on my work? A: No, no comments on any work. Q: How will I be contacted if my work is selected? A: We will contact you with a "congrats!" email and follow up with the award. Q: Can I write about any topic? A: Yes submit any writing you choose. Q: If I am published can I add it to a college, internship, or other application? A: YES!!! And you will have the link to your pen name/award. Although if possible, please use a translator tool, a friend, or teacher to come up with the best translation. We will publish in both languages (Spanish, etc... AND English). Dialogue within a story does not need translation. Q: Can students volunteer with We Write Here? A: Yes, please reach out to us if you are interested. We welcome any suggestions or feedback as well. Q: How can I redeem my gift card award for Green Apple Books? Gift cards work at the Clement Street flagship store in San Francisco, Books on the Park on 9th ave, and at Browser Books on Fillmore. They also work on the website for online orders and never expire or loose value. Green Apple Books has an excellent book recommendation list.
